From Dull to Dazzling – How We Transformed Our Old Camper Van into a Colorful Home on Wheels

Campervan Interior Makeover – From Beige to Bold

What happens when you mix thrift finds, a love for color, Moroccan fabrics, and one old camper van? A fearless campervan interior makeover that turned Martta into a cozy home on wheels.

Well, obviously—a makeover project that divides opinions and makes caravan Facebook groups gasp.

It all started with boring beige

When Martta joined our family, her interior was… let’s say “very traditional” and honestly depressing. Grey, brown, and that lifeless 90s RV vibe. But for us, the soul starts to sing only when the wallpaper glows, the curtains bloom with flowers, and everything is just a bit too much—in the best way.

So, brush in hand and color to the rescue!

Thrifted treasures, DC-fix and bathroom-grade paint

Our campervan interior makeover included DC-fix, leftover wallpaper, and lots of courage.

Martta’s makeover was done just the way good taste would probably advise against:

  • I painted the walls and cabinets white using durable bathroom paint—something a bit tougher to handle our kind of living.

  • Cabinets and countertops got a new life with DC-fix and leftover Pip Studio wallpaper bits found in thrift stores. Pink, roses, hearts, polka dots—just a little too much of everything. Perfect.

  • I’ve gathered the curtains from thrift stores over the years.

  • The couch covers were sewn from Moroccan fabrics, though after many road trips they’re definitely ready for a refresh

Praise, giggles, and a few side-eyes

Not everyone was thrilled with Martta’s bold new style. In one caravan group, someone declared the interior looked like a porn cave. We laughed for weeks.

Another person even complained about Martta’s resale value. But hey—this isn’t an investment piece. It’s a home. We’re not chasing value, we’re chasing life.
Maybe one day Martta will be swapped for another kind of camper—but until then, we ride together, through all the curves, hills, and memories.

What’s next?

She’s not finished—nor does she need to be.

There are plans to remove the unused shower, create a better space in the back for the dogs, and freshen up some worn-out surfaces.

The driver’s seats are crying out for something new—maybe not leopard print or flamingos (okay, maybe), but definitely something fun.

The rugs could also use an update; at this point, they’ve started developing their own personalities.

And yes, the exterior—someday it’ll get painted. Maybe pink. Maybe with glitter.
But for now, Martta is cozy, colorful, a little wild—and absolutely ours.

If you’ve ever wondered whether an old camper can become a home, here’s your proof.
A little paint, a little madness, and a whole lot of love—and Martta became Martta.
Forget what others think. What matters most is that you love it—and feel at home.

If you’re dreaming of your own campervan interior makeover, don’t be afraid of color.
